The People’s Boat Project

Sea Sharp’s restoration is underway, and we’re inviting you to help shape her future!

In 1965 Sharon Sites Adams sailed this 26-foot folkboat on her first solo ocean voyage from California to Hawaii. Today, Sea Sharp needs a complete rebuild. Her backbone, planks, and rigging all must be replaced. With your support, we can ensure she sails again, not as a relic, but as a living vessel of history, craft, and community. Every contribution moves us closer to launching her back into the water.

This project isn’t just about repairing a boat, it’s about creating a space where people belong. Our workshop will bring women and gender queer folks into the fold to learn traditional skills in a safe, welcoming environment. Once the boat is in the water, small-boat sailing programs will connect the restoration work to the joy of being on the water. The journey will take two to three years, and your donation, whether one-time or ongoing, provides the planks, tools, and time it takes to breathe new life into Sea Sharp. Join the crew and be a part of the next chapter in Sea Sharp’s voyage.

How you can help

We’re seeking women and gender queer folks interested in helping or learning various skills in a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment. This may look like:

  • Weekend and evening hands-on workshops on various aspects of wooden boat restoration such as: planking, steam bending, tool use, finish work, rigging, etc.

  • Sail training on small boats in the community. We have access to a number of boats that will be incorporated into our project.

Admin Support

We’re always looking for support in the administrative and non-boat-y tasks of running a (soon to be) non-profit and community supported project. From marketing to development, we’d love to have your help.

Donate!
